nash russell is a 5'11 cuban-american born in 1987. chi notes him to be physically detached and adrift.

nash's life is characterized a lot by his refusal to be tethered anywhere. after high school, a sense of misdirection led him to enlist in the marines, and afterwards, he sought his bachelors and masters in electrical engineering. he worked as a radio host while trying to find employment before being taken by chi.

nash is constantly moving from place to place and never has a permanent address; rather all of his mail is delivered to a p.o. box he never checks. he refuses to be tied down to one specific person and prefers people not to invade his space. he goes on scavenging expeditions and explores, all to keep from being tied down to one specific place in the hotel.

he often has a lot of conversations on walks and can be seen relocating his few belongings regularly. it's not that he has troubles connecting with people, but prefers to do it from afar. he forgets things exist if they're not out of his sight and can be quite clumsy if he doesn't watch himself. he has extremely poor balance.

he sees and hears things that aren't really there; things calling his name beyond the walls of the hotel, or beckoning him forth into other places. he'll turn to look at things in the corner of his eyes or believe that something or someone is hiding his tools from him when he most needs them. he's malnourished from forgetting he needs to eat or being extremely out of touch with his physical sensations. he's lean and wiry, although this is the way he was born and has always been built. despite having poor physical coordination, he maintains reasonable strength.

despite his physical failings, nash is a BRILLIANT engineer because he has extremely keen pattern recognition. he loves theory and enjoys being well read, as well as recognizing certain solutions and their failings. he spends a lot of time refining his inner world and padding it with stuff he can think about while he wanders around.

nash thrusts himself into physical instability because he is afraid of losing a home or a physical place he is tethered to. his mind is hungry for new places because he can control when he comes and goes. a home can always be taken away, whether by others malicious actions (like his girlfriend burning down his old family home) or by economic wiles and oscillations. he moves, changes homes, changes locations, trades out his old lives for new ones. his identity oscillates, and even he isnt sure of what crazy backstory he's supposed to be telling when he meets new people. he hasnt come up with a consistent story yet. he's afraid to tell alan and konstantin that he's been lying to them, because he's afraid that he really does like being around both of them. he is a compulsive liar and has an extremely poor attention span, mostly because he's always thinking about his next project or his next venture.

nash's ideal self has a home and a happy place to live he's content with. he has a workbench and a set routine and people who look forward to seeing him, as well as a stable job with good pay. he is not afraid of losing things because he is at ease with the way space changes and comes and goes.
