ALAN WHITMORE-PASCAL is a 5'9 man born in 1912. in chi's descriptions, he is noted to be severely culturally or socially adrift, being the one lacking in emotional connection.

alan is a difficult person to get to know. this isn't because he's a malicious actor; against common belief by people who have gotten to know him, he's very interested in others and eager to make connections. in fact, the only reason why alan lacks close relationships is because in every sense of the word, he is completely unremarkable.

by some anomalous-seeming feat, everyone he's ever met seems to drift apart from him in one way or another. even his parents. anyone who he's ever remotely tried to get close with tends to gradually forget he exists as much as he forgets they exist. it is not that either parties antagonize each other, but they never really get close. in every sense of the word, there is nothing for people to get to know beneath the surface. there is nothing particularly strange or weird about his life and his family: he had a mother and father who made good, average money, enough to fund his education, and he has a degree in mathematics. he is completely average looking. he doesn't hold any hard feelings about his insignificance and almost seems to be distracted by it. this isolation has led him to having a rich inner world, distracted by the workings of logic and mathematics and becoming increasingly aloof the longer he lives. above all, he lacks emotional depth and fails to engage in emotional disclosure to others, leading to his failings in forming proper relationships.

alan worked at a tea shop his sister runs to fund his college education. however, after the war started, he was evacuated and moved to 'continue his studies.' he's never told anyone what that means or why it's so important to him, but he uses several rooms in the hotel to continue whatever project he was hired to work on by 'mysterious benefactors.'

alan is externally compassionate, but internally lacks any warmth or desire to connect with others. he feels entirely neutral about others and mostly indulges in cultural or social phenomena for his own pleasure or to maintain neutral states with others. he's never been involved in interpersonal conflict he's needed to take sides in, mostly because he doesn't make meaningful friendships. he can be a little frustrating to interact with, mostly because he does not address unmet needs in others if they are not directly spoken. he feels intuitively like something is missing from his experience as a person, but seeks out art or literature as a way to fill this hole.

he's very interested in the way things work and experiences the world as a system of balances and exchanges. he enjoys categorizing, sorting, and refining his systems of mental organization and picking apart the things he comes across and people he comes across. he spends a lot of time thinking and mulling on things more than taking action. he has a strong sense of pattern recognition, whether through current events or memory (except, strangely enough, when it comes to maintaining relationships with others.)

he is close (but never too close) to konstantin and nash. nash sometimes helps or looks over his projects if alan needs any consultation.

his hobbies are reading and completing crosswords or logic puzzles. he likes attending local plays or theatre performances and is well-cultured, despite not engaging meaningfully with others.

alan's ideal self is capable of building a secure and strong support network. his ideal self recognizes his emotional deficits and aims to correct them by meaningfully connecting with others to understand their life experiences. his ideal self enjoys others' company outside of others and feels warmth towards them. his ideal self feels as if he belongs somewhere.
